All dogs and dog owners need training. You both need Obedience Training. You have to be consistent and the whole family has to participate. If one person is doing one thing and another is doing something different you are not going to get anywhere with your training. You will have a very confused dog. First of all you have to remember that a dog is
that a dog. (don't get me wrong I LOVE my dogs like my kids and would do
anything for them.) That is why you have to understand dog psychology. The pack
order!! There are a lot of different types of training methods. Some people strongly believe in only one of these methods while some will use a combination of them. I'm not going to tell you that one is better than the other. You have to learn what works best for you. Take time to read and research different methods. There are a lot of good books and websites. They will only work if you are serious about the training. Again you have to be consistent. Do not reward your dog for bad behavior. Only reward them when they have done what you have asked. We have used the reward training ourselves. I ran across a TV show one day while surfing the channels stopped on a show about a dog trainer named Ceaser Millan "The Dog Whisper". He is on the National Geographic Channel. His own web site is The Cesar Millan Center. I agree with a lot with his methods of training. I think it is a very good show and that you can pick up a lot of tips from him. You can search Google or Yahoo for the different topics. Don't stop reading at the top ones that you find.
